How to Set Up TuxlerVPN on Windows
TuxlerVPN Standard on Windows is community-powered: while the free application remains installed, the device can participate in the residential network. Premium devices do not participate.
Use the official TuxlerVPN Windows download page and review the system requirements before installing.
Before installation
- Install current Windows security updates.
- Check the requirements on the Windows download page.
- Download a fresh copy of the current installer from the official Windows page.
- On a managed work or school device, obtain authorization from the administrator.
Install the application
- Open the Windows download page.
- Download the current installer and verify that its publisher is TuxlerVPN before running it.
- Review the installer information and user agreements.
- Approve the Windows network permission only if the publisher and requested change are expected.
- Finish installation and open the application.
Choose a plan and connection
The Standard Windows plan is offered without a subscription charge and can use residential and datacenter connections.
For Premium, sign in with the account credentials provided for the subscription, then choose an available residential or datacenter connection.
Verify operation
Wait for the application to report a connected state. Follow the VPN testing checklist to compare the public IP address before and after connecting and check the DNS route. The guide to public-IP changes explains how to interpret the result.
Connection assistance
Restart the application and confirm that the Windows date and time are correct. Keep Windows security controls active during setup. For organization-managed equipment, the administrator can confirm whether the approved firewall and endpoint settings permit the connection.
If a security product reports the installer, confirm that it came from the official download page and use TuxlerVPN support for assistance.
TuxlerVPN works alongside Windows security updates, HTTPS, multifactor authentication, and good account-security practices.
