How TuxlerVPN Changes Your Public IP Address

When TuxlerVPN is connected, internet traffic covered by the application is sent through a VPN endpoint. Destinations normally receive that endpoint’s public IP address instead of the subscriber connection’s public IP address.

This is a network-routing change, not a change to physical GPS location, account country, identity, or legal residence. Websites may still recognize accounts, cookies, browser storage, device characteristics, payment details, and information a user submits.

Public, local, and location information

A device can have a private address on its local network and a public address used on the wider internet. Connecting a VPN normally changes the public address received by covered destinations; it does not replace every local-network address on the device.

IP-based location is an estimate produced from network registration and commercial data. Databases can disagree or remain stale after an address is reassigned. The same limitation applies when checking whether an IP is residential or datacenter. A different public IP therefore does not prove a physical move or change an account’s registered country.

Public addresses can also change when an internet provider reassigns an address or when a device connects through a different network.

Dynamic, static, shared, and dedicated addresses

These terms describe address assignment, not the strength of the encrypted connection:

An ISP can assign a subscriber address dynamically or statically, and carrier-grade NAT can let multiple subscribers share one public address. A VPN provider can likewise rotate exit addresses, share an address among customers, or offer a dedicated address. A stable address can support consistent allowlisting, while a shared or rotating model provides a wider address pool.

The appropriate model depends on the operational need. Accounts, applications, device settings, HTTPS, and the data shared with each destination remain separate from the IP assignment method.

Verify the connection

  1. Record the public IP address shown by a reputable IP-information service as part of a repeatable VPN connection test.
  2. Connect the VPN and wait for the application to confirm the connection.
  3. Reload the IP-information service and compare the public address.
  4. Run DNS and routing-leak tests if privacy depends on all eligible traffic using the tunnel.

Use the selected VPN location and the measured public IP together to confirm that the tested request followed the expected route.
